Mendy, the obsessive curator.
I blame it on my grandmothers - both of them. Margaret hired a decorator and filled her home with gorgeous furniture and pieces my grandfather brought her from his travels overseas. Kay loved the most interesting pieces - most memorable was a Danish dining table - and she loved to collect. Her home was filled with books, antique china and crystal. So here I am....an obsessive curator of all pieces beautiful. If the piece is not beautiful, it is not welcome into my home for very long.

I have been doing this a long time just for the love of design. I have an incredible base of friends and family that have encouraged me to take a leap of faith with MHPDesign. I also have this incredible husband (my assistant as some like to call him to his dismay) - Kevin. And let's not forget the mascot - Charlotte. We call her Charli or Chuck. She accompanies me most everywhere so fair warning!

I follow the basic principles:
If you love it, it will fit into the design.
Mix - mix textures, mix pattern, mix styles ( I think I made this clear).
Incorporate the art you love. Art does not have to be expensive. Or it can be priceless. You choose.
Choose at least three pieces with history into your room. History - something precious to you, from the 1800s, from the 70s.
Sculptural. One item has to have a sculptural component, whether it is an art piece or a modern piece of furniture or a piece of driftwood.
Simplify. This has a different meaning on the East Coast versus the West Coast...but keep only the pieces you love.
