What can I never live without? There are a few things and there is a history behind all of them.

I guarantee you have items that you cannot imagine living without even if they are not the same...

Let's begin with a chesterfield. I know, such an old school sofa. And, yes, I love a good antique and, in regards to a chesterfield - the older the leather, the better.

I found my perfect chesterfield in the most amazing store in St. Charles, Illinois. St. Charles is the quintessential Norman Rockwell town in the Midwest and this store, Scentimental Gardens, is not your typical garden store. The owner has a fabulous eye for mixing old and new and brought this Chesterfield from Denmark.

I needed it. As Kevin, my husband, always says - There is a different between want and need. But I needed it. And, wait for it..... I named it Scarlett.

Scarlett began her life in my St. Charles' 1910 farmhouse study and has followed me to my Victorian in California. I will argue with anyone that a chesterfield fits in any house, old or new, and in any style of decor.

Case in point, Scarlett now sits with a midcentury houndstooth chair and Baker brass tray coffee table in my house. But, if you are not fond of old (which is completely understandable), the chesterfield is now a modern fixture and can be found new in all types of fabric, arm styles and foot styles. And it will for sure fit in your home - if you do not believe me, game on.
